Suckers or Hard Tack Candy

2 Drams of flavoring (about 1 ½ teaspoons)
2 cups sugar
2/3 cup light corn syrup
3/4 cup water
food coloring
powdered sugar (optional)

In a large sauce pan, mix together sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over med. Heat until sugar dissolves. Bring mixture to a boil without stirring. When syrup reaches 260 degrees, add desired color. (Do not stir; boiling action will mix the color in.) Remove from heat at 300 degrees. After boiling stops add flavoring and stir. Pour syrup into greased (Pam sprayed) sucker molds or onto a cookie sheet (score it to make it easier to break). When cool break into pieces and dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking. Store in an airtight container!
